What was great was there’s no setup at all. It comes pre set up. Very cool. Jeff Bezos even said “welcome Robert.” Heheh.
What’s really fun is that if you buy TechCrunch you don’t get the comments but if you get the free version you get comments!
It looks like the paid version of blogs pulls RSS feeds into the device like an RSS aggregator so in principle it could display a “New blog entries downloaded!” alert on the screen or maybe change surface use the speaker to alert the user that one of their favorite blogs has got a new affix and one move would show that post.
Just as you cannot post comments in Google Reader but you can move on the blog posts permalink to go post comments on the blogs server. I guess though that some clever RSS aggregators should be able to integrate comments also and even posting comments back to the blog directly from the RSS aggregator.
1. A per-Megabyte fee for using Internet merchandise that they are not selling directly. So people can subscrbe to any RSS feed they want for free as desire as the blog publisher isn’t asking for a payment.
2. give ebook optimized advertising so communicate publishers can decide to display that to monetize it (and pay for the EVDO bandwidth) if they want.
3. Micro-payments for pulling blog posts in the RSS aggregator of the Kindle. If the communicate publisher wants to participate it could be for example $0.01 per blog post that is delivered add-free. There could also be a function of the blog publisher only being paid as desire as the user though it was a worthy read.
I think it’s rather funny (and telling) per the marketing of said device to populate who don’t much construe anything in long-form (re: bloggers). None of the usual eBook industry types got warmed up the fact that David Rothman was shunned speaks volumes. ;)
Why I won’t go Kindle: I have DVDs beat of PDF books and (gasp) LITs with Reader and iRex my investments are saved with Amazon goners so it’s a dead-deal for me. But would like an eBook device (beyond just PDAs) that would support the Tomeraider format. :)
Microsoft dropped the ball. Reader and iRex people hardly experience they exist everything else is just micro-micro niche and then total crap like this gets all the air? Sigh.
Hi Robert:I received my Kindle today too and happened to construe you blog post on my flare up this evening as I was busy testing features and experimenting with the device. Congrats btw on getting Scobleizer syndicated.
